Destilería Santa Lucia takes its name from the city where it is located. Situated in a region rich in water, the company recognizes the importance of water as a vital resource for tequila production. A family business built on dedication and love for the traditional Mexican spirit, it is passed down from father to son. Today, the fourth generation is at the helm.
Established in 1940 by Don Enrique Guillermo Newton, the company initially sold tequila under the name "Superior and unique special tequila." By the 1980s, the company had gained recognition in the world of tequila and was rapidly expanding. In 1989, the name Tequilera Newton e Hijos was officially established, and construction of the current Santa Lucia distillery began in 1991, completed in 1994.
In 2002, the tequila brand El Destilador 100% agave was born, currently the most profitable product of the company. Alongside, another flagship brand, Tequila La Puerta Negra was also introduced.
In late 2009, Federico Ernesto (son of the company's founder) and his wife Doña Graciela Francisca handed over the management of the family business to their two children, Carlos Enrique and Graciela María Guadalupe. This duo gradually transitioned all operations of the old family enterprise Tequilera Newton e Hijos to the new company Destilería Santa Lucia.
Today, Destilería Santa Lucia is a modern and efficient factory, certified by the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) and the Official Mexican Standard (NOM). With an authentic traditional taste, incorporation of new technological methods and production tools, strict product quality control, while still deeply respecting the traditional method (using stone ovens) and the original tequila recipe as it was crafted by the company's founder, Don Enrique Guillermo Newton.
The company has now gained both national and international recognition, offering a wide range of tequilas made from 100% agave, mixto tequilas, and tequila-based liqueurs.
