Nonino Distillery was founded by Horatio Nonino in 1897. The family business was continued by subsequent generations. In 1933, Antonio Nonino, a representative of the third generation of the family, launched the production of liqueurs, the basis of which was Italian grappa. In 1973, Benito and Giannola Nonino released the first single-variety grappa Monovitigno by distilling the must of Picolit grapes. The drink was a staggering success. The year 1984 was a significant one for the company. Thanks to the efforts of Benito and Giannola, the first distillate from whole grape berries was created and sold under the label ÙE®. To emphasize the value of the new product, the company commissioned handcrafted bottles from a Murano glass master with an image of a grape cluster inside the glass. In 2000, the company launched Gioiello® — a distillate made from natural honey. In 2003, Giannola and Benito Nonino received the prestigious Leonardo Prize for Italian Quality for the absolute level of quality, research, and innovation that characterizes the brand, which places importance on family and dedication to their craft. The Nonino family has become true ambassadors of Italian grappa worldwide. In August 2008, Nonino Cru Monovitigno® Picoli grappa won a double gold medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The company sees its mission in constantly improving the quality of its products, preserving authenticity, respecting the land, as well as conducting regular research with an innovative approach.
